Sentri7

Sentri7, the real-time patient surveillance system by Pharmacy OneSource increases healthcare interventions that improve outcomes, improve quality performance and prevent harm.
(Read the Holy Family Hospital Case Study.)

Hospitals are typically time-starved, information-chaotic, high-stakes workplaces. But the allure of helping real people with their health is so very compelling. How can clinicians, pharmacists and infection control professionals get their patients better - quickly, safely and at lower costs?

The answer: Tie data together, use rules-based surveillance and notification driven prioritization worklists, and easily facilitate trend analysis reporting - all within workflows.

Sentri7 by Pharmacy OneSource does just this... for a growing number of U.S. healthcare organizations. It is predicted by December 2008, more than 200 organizations will have selected Sentri7 to improve CMS core measure performance, reduce healthcare-associated infections, and increase the positive impact of existing personnel and IT resources.

Sentri7 uses highly secure VPN technology and HL7 data feeds to coalesce, store, and monitor data residing in disparate hospital information systems -- notifying and alerting clinicians of intervention opportunities triggered by data (value, rate, trend, correlation, etc.) driven clinical rules.

With Sentri7, every patient is under surveillance for opportunities to get better quickly, safely and at lower costs.

With Sentri7, every minute is available to intervene and impact patient care and safety. No more hunting down and waiting on data -- it's available in real time in one place as a composite view of each patient's data.

With Sentri7, every staff member can create user-defined rules-based worklists, notifications and alerts that help manage priority... without having to request assistance from overburdened IT personnel

With Sentri7, every clinician can be informed of organization-specific best practice guidelines to facilitate top-performance compliance.

The quantity and type of rules you can create/run are nearly limitless, only constrained by the data stored within your existing systems. Here are a few example rules:

  • Alerts for Kayexelate or Naloxone STAT orders
  • Erythropoetin: received epo + Hgb >/= 12
  • Renal dosing: scr >1.5 + age > 65 years + on your selected renally-eliminated drugs
  • Potassium: diuretic + no k+ supplement + k < 3.5
  • Digoxin: digoxin + digoxin level
  • Metformin: metformin + scr > 1.4 female
  • IV/PO: on IV med listed on target IV/PO list
  • CMS Indicator: troponin > 0.2 or ckMB positive and not on a B-blocker, ACE/ARB/ASA/statin
  • Warfarin: warfarin + INR > 4.0

Sentri7 can be used to help comply with:

  • CMS Indicators --
    • Make sure AMI patients have received aspirin and/or statin therapy.
    • Check if surgery and pneumonia patients have been given antibiotics.

  • Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals --
    • Monitor patients on anticoagulation treatments.
    • Flag patients most at-risk from medication-related falls.

  • Infection Control Best Practices --
    • Identify sensitive and resistant drug/bug combinations.
    • Alert staff to MRSA cases and hospital-acquired infections.
    • Submission of reports to CDC National Health Safety Network (NHSN).

Sentri7 is secure, robust, protected and HIPAA compliant.
Sentri7 is deployed via a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. Clinicians access Sentri7 via secure SSL connections using a standard web browser and Internet access. An organization's existing lab, patient, and medication data is safely transferred via HL7 interfaces over point-to-point IPSec VPN connections with Pharmacy OneSource. All data is stored and processed on Pharmacy OneSource's redundant, load-balanced servers within SAS 70 Type II and SysTrust Certified datacenters. Sentri7 customers get superior data center robustness and security with daily off-site backup storage.

Hear from others about why they chose Sentri7:

"Saint Barnabas Health Care System in New Jersey recently purchased Sentri7 surveillance to augment its antibiotic stewardship and anticoagulant management programs. The Sentri7 program is critical to the prospective analysis of patient’s information to impact change while the patient is still in our institution. We will expand our programs to other diseases and laboratory values as the possibilities are endless. The excitement this product has generated within our department and health system is palpable."
 - Robert T. Adamson PharmD, Corporate Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, Saint Barnabas Health Care System

"We decided on Sentri7 for a couple of reasons: Less moving parts - everything is web-based and there are no additional hardware costs because you use their servers, which dramatically decreases costs and implementation time. Layout - the system seemed more intuitive and it was so easy to use, even a physician could do it. Costs - The return on investment is going to be the same with any system but this one was so much cheaper, it was hard to ignore."
 - Christopher Virgilio, Clinical Coordinator, Washington County Hospital

“We chose to pursue grant funding for Sentri7 because the software's potential usage spans multiple departments. We sought to be proactive in recognizing the need and believed the state might be looking for new, inventive ways to reduce medication errors. I also believe Sentri7 has the potential to free up pharmacist time, a precious commodity in a critical access facility.”
-- Denise Fields, Director of Pharmacy Services, Decatur County Memorial Hospital
