New York Hospital Queens Enhances Clinical Pharmacy Programs with Sentri7 by Pharmacy OneSource

Sentri7 combines the real-time data necessary for pharmacists to make well-informed interventions on patient care in a timely manner

Bellevue, Wash. -- New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) has joined the growing list of hospitals that have implemented Sentri7 -- a system that allows hospital-based pharmacists to cross reference patients' health information with the medication patients are receiving to ensure optimal care.

With Sentri7, clinicians have a single point of access to lab results, medication records and patient demographics, data that currently reside in different systems. Clinicians can write rules against the data to identify at-risk patients.

"A large part of the clinical pharmacist's responsibilities requires reviewing patient profiles for serious drug interactions, renal dose adjustment, IV-PO interchange, and antibiotic utilization. Printing paper reports and sifting through the data for patients that require intervention was a long and tedious task. With the implementation of Sentri7, the appropriate parameters can be established in the database to focus only on those patients that require monitoring," said Bessie Vardianos, Clinical Pharmacist at NYHQ.

Vardianos also said the antibiotic pharmacist at NYHQ uses Sentri7 on a daily basis to monitor antibiotic orders and match them against microbiology results.

"Using the Sentri7 rules we were able to establish 'Adverse Drug Reaction triggers' that have enhanced ADR reporting. Sentri7 has also been instrumental in helping our institution comply with the monitoring requirements of the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goal 3E on Anticoagulation," said Alex Melchert, Director of Pharmacy at NYHQ. "Sentri7 is of great value, whether you are short on clinical resources or just want to utilize your clinical staff in a more efficient manner."

"We're tapping the tip of the iceberg at this point, and just realizing how much this program can really do for us," continued Melchert. "The traditional pharmacy system report generator can access some of this information, but it is not able to access patient-specific data from multiple databases."
