Baptist Regional Medical Center Selects Quantifi and Amplifi for Better Pharmacy Performance

Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky has implemented Quantifi to establish benchmarks and trending of clinical and quality pharmacy activities and Amplifi to manage their formulary and communicate medication information throughout the hospital.

Quantifi allows BRMC pharmacists to document their clinical interventions quickly over the internet or on a handheld computer through a series of menus, drop-lists, and input screens, collecting crucial event data easily. Quantifi users then have the ability to follow-up on their reports or the reports done by their peers. Administrators can easily generate executive level reports and detailed managerial reports to support clinical and quality improvement activities.

"Quantifi has helped us track our clinical interventions as well as productivity. These numbers have justified the benefit of our clinical pharmacists," said Cliff Niemeier, RPh, Director of Pharmacy at Baptist Regional Medical Center. "We are also using it to document anticoagulation monitoring to meet The Joint Commission's NPSG 3E requirement."

Amplifi is a flexible, robust formulary management and pharmacy communications application with integrated drug information. It provides BRMC with the most versatile, easy-to-use tool to manage, update, and communicate formularies in print, on the web, and on handhelds.

"We hope Amplifi will improve pharmacy communications with nursing and physician staff," said Niemeier. "Implementation of both programs has been smooth and we appreciate Pharmacy OneSource's support." Read the full press release.

Free Clinical Interventions Report: Top 10 Interventions, AEs and ADRs

We currently have 60,935 users documenting in Quantifi who have recorded more than $126 million in cost savings in the second quarter of 2009.

Quantifi users documented 2,134,854 interventions last quarter, which were associated with $13,389,190 actual dollar and $112,851,479 in risk avoidance savings by pharmacists through intervention. Real reduction in supply costs (such as a switch from atorvastatin to simvistatin) is an example of actual dollar savings; where avoided potential costs (an adverse drug event or an extended length of stay) represent risk avoidance savings.

Here are the Top Five Drugs associated with a medication error recorded in Quantifi last quarter, and the total number of reports for each:

  1. Insulin Preparations - 422
  2. Vancomycin - 399
  3. Enoxaparin - 394
  4. Morphine Sulfate - 344
  5. Warfarin - 315

Bronson Methodist Hospital - Implementing standardized concentrations with ease

Bronson Methodist Hospital, located in downtown Kalamazoo, Mich., is the flagship of Bronson Healthcare Group, a not-for-profit healthcare system serving all of southwest Michigan and northern Indiana. Steven Janke is the IT Support Pharmacist and has been using Accupedia since 2006. In this interview he explains how Accupedia helped them standardize drip concentrations and eliminated use of the "rule of six."

Pharmacy OneSource: What problems were you facing at your facility before your purchase of Accupedia?

Steven Janke: We purchased Accupedia at our institution to assist us in eliminating the "rule of six" to calculate concentrations for our pediatric patients. We also knew it would help clarify the ordering and administration of therapeutic drips in our pediatric population.

Pharmacy OneSource: How has Accupedia helped you solve these problems?

Steven Janke: Accupedia has provided a platform for us to standardize our drip concentrations without a significant learning curve for our physicians.

Pharmacy OneSource: What do you like best about Accupedia?

Steven Janke: Implementation was pretty pain free. We also find Pharmacy OneSource to be responsive to our requests for formulary additions and other upgrades.
